President

Responsible for the overall running of the Branch and acts as the spokesperson and representative.

The duties of the President, or if absent, the Vice President are detailed below:

  • act as Chairperson at all Management Committee and General meetings.
  • maintain familiarity with the Branch's constitution and by-laws
  • decide on voting procedures, who may vote, the majorities required and whether notice need be given utilising the general methods of procedure
  • prepare meeting agendas in consultation with the Secretary
  • ensure a quorum is present for every meeting
  • ensure all meetings are properly called
  • act as the spokesperson of the Branch by explaining policy, decisions, aspirations and activities to members, other groups or individuals, or when the occasion arises refer matters back to a Management Committee and/or Society meeting for a decision.
  • before any meeting obtain a copy of the previous agenda, previous minutes, and enquiring whether the matters there raised have been attended to
  • play host to visitors and represent the Society on public occasions
  • ensure that any public statements expressed are that of the Branch and not personal opinions
  • delegate activities when and where appropriate
  • provide a ‘President’s Report’ to the Reel Spiel Editor for each edition of Reel Spiel
  • work in conjunction with the Vice-President, Secretary and Management Committee to ensure continuity during the President’s absence
  • work with the Management Committee to ensure the Branch's goals are achieved
  • act as an ex-officio member on all Branch sub-committees
  • act as one of the four designated signatories (i.e. President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer) on the Branch’s bank account.

Attendance of Meetings

The President should attend all scheduled and extraordinary Management Committee Meetings. If unable to attend a meeting she/he should give maximum notice possible.

Resignation of President

In the event that the President resigns, one month’s notice in writing is required and the retiring President will make every effort to invite/nominate a suitable candidate or replacement person for the Branch.
